The acute drought-like situation prevailing in Uttar Pradesh has led to a loss of agricultural produce worth Rs 11,400 crore this year so far, the state's Chief Secretary D S Bagga said here on Sunday.

Bagga, who was here after reviewing the drought situation in two districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, said the district authorities have been directed to take immediate steps to meet the situation.

He said arrangements have been made to fill the dry ponds and provide fodder for cattle in the rural areas while over Rs 35 crore have been sanctioned for installing new hand pumps and repairing the old ones.

Asked about the deteriorating power supply situation in the state, the chief secretary said work on three power plants was in progress and hoped that their installation would result in considerable improvement in the overall situation
